FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

What is the best Masquerade murder mystery game?
Can I play this Masquerade murder mystery game with 10 people?
Is this Masquerade murder mystery game available for virtual play or in-person events?

This is a physical boxed edition, designed first and foremost for hosting an in-person masquerade ball murder mystery at home. The printed Host and Character Booklets are made to be shared around the table as your guests mingle in costume.

If you would prefer to play virtually, a digital and printable version of the same Masquerade mystery is also available, which can be shared with players over a video call. You will find a link to the digital edition on this product page.

How long does it take to play this Masquerade murder mystery game?

A Masquerade Murder typically plays out over roughly 1.5 to 3.5 hours, making it ideal for a full evening of intrigue at your masquerade ball.

The exact length depends on your group. Larger casts, more discussion between the masked guests and time spent enjoying food, drink and costumes will naturally extend the evening, while a smaller, faster-paced group may reach the reveal more quickly.

With a medium difficulty level, the game gives everyone plenty of time to explore the evidence, question one another and enjoy the Venetian carnival atmosphere before the murderer is unmasked.

What is included in the Masquerade murder mystery game kit?

A Masquerade Murder is a physical boxed kit posted directly to you, ready to host your own Venetian masquerade ball murder mystery night. Everything is beautifully presented so you can simply open the box and play.

Inside you will find Host Guide Booklets to walk you through running the evening, individual Character Booklets for each guest, and in-character costume suggestions built into those booklets. The kit also includes digital access to the detective audio files, the evidence and the invitation booklets, so you have everything needed to set the scene.

Together these components give you a complete, self-contained mystery set at a 1755 Venetian carnival, where a figure in red is found dead and your guests must uncover who they were and why someone wanted them gone.

Can I play this Masquerade murder mystery game more than once?

Yes. A Masquerade Murder is designed to be replayed. The game uses a random murderer mechanic, so the culprit can be different each time you play.

That means you can host the same Venetian carnival mystery again with a new group of guests, or even the same friends, and enjoy a fresh outcome as the killer changes. It is a great way to get more than one memorable evening from a single kit.

What events or occasions is this Masquerade murder mystery game suitable for?

A Masquerade Murder is perfect for any occasion where you want to bring guests together for a glamorous, mysterious evening. Its elegant Venetian ball setting suits birthdays, dinner parties, anniversaries and other celebrations.

The masquerade theme also makes it a wonderful choice for more formal or festive gatherings, from adult get-togethers and Halloween nights to New Year celebrations, where masks and dressing up feel right at home.

Because the host can play along and the murderer is randomised, it works equally well as a one-off party centrepiece or as a game you return to for different occasions.

What is the recommended age group for this Masquerade murder mystery game?

This game is recommended for players aged 14 and over. The characters, themes of society, scandal and murder, and the level of reading and deduction involved are best suited to teenagers and adults.

It is a great fit for adult dinner parties as well as older teens who enjoy role-play and a good whodunnit, so you can gather a mixed group of grown-up guests with confidence.

Do players need to dress up in costumes for this Masquerade murder mystery?

Costumes are entirely optional, but they are warmly encouraged. With a masquerade ball theme, dressing up in elegant, fantasy-inspired attire and, of course, a mask really brings the Venetian carnival to life.

Each Character Booklet includes in-character costume suggestions to help your guests look the part, whether that is opulent gowns, dashing suits or ornate masks in keeping with the fantasy theme.

If some guests would rather keep it simple, a single mask is enough to join the fun, so everyone can take part at whatever level of dressing up they are comfortable with.

Can I add more players or characters to this Masquerade murder mystery game?

A Masquerade Murder comes with a full cast of masked guests, from The Countess and The Dragon to The Fox, The Wolf and more, giving you a rich set of characters for your ball.

If you are expecting a larger crowd, expansion packs can be used to add more players and characters to the party, so no guest need be left without a role. This makes it easy to scale the evening up for bigger gatherings.

If you have more guests than characters, players can also comfortably attend as non-speaking masked guests, joining the socialising and investigation without a dedicated role.
