Mystery at the Kids’ Museum

The local museum is holding a public exhibition of wax figures, to show kids what Genghis Khan, Amelia Earhart, and other historical characters looked like. What the public doesn’t see is that the characters come to life every evening and party until dawn, when they turn back to statues. It’s all due to the ancient 'Wand of Vitality” that is also on display.

One night, the party is interrupted by a blackout. When the dim emergency lights come on, there are sudden screams. "The Wand is missing from its case! Someone hid it so only they can use it! If it isn't back by dawn, the rest of us are doomed to be statues forever!"

Whodunit? Was it someone who wanted to create new armies? Someone who wanted to go out into the world and do more of what made them famous? Someone who wanted to sell it for a fortune? Or maybe it was—YOU!

A kids' museum-themed mystery game is an exciting way to mix fun, teamwork, and imagination. Set inside a fictional children's museum or discovery center, the game invites players to solve a puzzling mystery—like a missing artifact, a sabotaged science exhibit, or a nighttime prank gone too far. With kid-friendly clues, curious characters, and a playful setting full of imagination, this game is perfect for young detectives who love solving problems, working together, and learning through roleplay.

Yes, this game is great for 10 participants. The standard version supports 4 to 14 players, and 10 is a perfect number for keeping everyone engaged and involved without being overwhelming. Each child takes on a unique role, with a backstory and a few clues to share. The flexible structure makes it easy to scale up or down if your group size changes.

This game is designed primarily for in-person events, where kids can move around, interact, and explore clues in a shared space. It works wonderfully in classrooms, museum workshops, party rooms, or homes. However, it can be adapted for virtual play with adult assistance—especially if clues and character sheets are shared in advance and the game is simplified for remote participation.

The game typically takes between 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the number of players and how much your group gets into the roleplay and dialogue. For 10 players, expect about two hours of gameplay. Some hosts choose to pause for food or wine courses between rounds, while others play straight through. The pacing is entirely up to you.

The kit includes everything needed to host a full mystery experience. You’ll get a host guide with instructions for setup and facilitation, character sheets with kid-appropriate roles and objectives, printable or digital clue cards, a simple script or timeline to keep the game moving, customizable invitations, and final answer cards where players write down who they think caused the museum mix-up. You’ll also get suggestions for setting up your space, prop ideas using everyday items, and optional follow-up activities.

Yes, the game is replayable. You can change the mystery's outcome by choosing a different culprit each time, and you can switch roles so kids get to experience the story from new angles. It’s a great fit for school programs, youth centers, or birthday parties with rotating groups. Some kids even enjoy playing again once they know the ending—especially if they get to take on the role of the “villain.”

This game is perfect for birthday parties, classroom enrichment, museum family days, after-school programs, scout groups, or rainy day activities at home. It works well for any group of children who enjoy creativity, teamwork, and pretend play—especially in a setting that encourages learning, like a science center or museum.

The game is recommended for ages 10 up. It’s designed with simple reading levels, clear objectives, and age-appropriate language. Younger children may need some adult help with reading or understanding clues, while older kids will enjoy the social deduction and the imaginative roles. It’s a great fit for both mixed-age groups and grade-level classrooms.

Costumes are optional but can add to the fun. Players might choose to dress as explorers, curators, detectives, or museum staff. Even simple additions like lab coats, magnifying glasses, name badges, or themed hats can enhance the experience. The character sheets include simple costume suggestions, but kids are free to use their imagination.

Yes, the game can be expanded for up to 20 players with additional character sheets. Each new role includes a unique backstory and small clues to help solve the mystery. Whether you're running a small group activity or a full-classroom experience, everyone can be included without affecting the balance of the game.

The game requires a host—usually an adult, teacher, or parent—to help guide the event, read certain parts aloud, and keep things moving. While the host can play a role in the story, it's helpful for them to stay neutral and act as a facilitator, especially for younger groups. Hosts may also help kids understand their clues, encourage quieter players to join in, and lead the final discussion when it’s time to guess who caused the mystery.
