PLOT

Exorcism at the Asylum

With regards to the tragedy that occurred at Madonna House, Park Slope, New York, on the morning of August 13th, 1969, we hereby give notice that the Vatican has launched an official investigation. You were present in the asylum when the body of Nurse Sara Hinder was found.

Father Kelly is sent to take care of the investigation because the asylum’s resident priest, Father Brennan, is far too young and inexperienced to carry this out (especially if an exorcism is required).

It is for Father Kelly to lead the investigation and ascertain who or what is to blame. Be prepared to defend yourself but more importantly be honest!

Exorcism & Asylum Halloween Murder Mystery Game Kit FAQs

An exorcism-themed murder mystery game offers a thrilling descent into the supernatural, where faith, fear, and secrets collide. Set in a once-sacred space now plagued by darkness—a crumbling church, haunted rectory, or isolated manor—the game casts players as priests, demonologists, skeptics, occult scholars, and afflicted witnesses. When a shocking death interrupts a ritual of banishment, suspicion falls on everyone present. Was it a failed exorcism… or a cover for something far more sinister? With its gothic atmosphere, layered lore, and unsettling clues, this game is ideal for horror lovers and mystery fans craving an immersive, spine-chilling experience.

Yes – 10 players is a great number for this exorcism-themed mystery. The base version is designed for 4–14 participants, so 10 falls well within the optimal range. Each character—from devout clergy to skeptical scientists and haunted mediums—is intricately woven into the story. The roles are structured to allow easy scaling if a guest cancels or another soul joins unexpectedly. With 10 characters, you'll have a perfect balance of tension, conflict, and overlapping secrets that drive the haunting narrative forward.

Yes – the game can be played either in person or online, making it ideal for remote gatherings as well as atmospheric, candle-lit evenings at home. For virtual play, characters and clues can be sent digitally, and the eerie tone translates effectively through screens. In-person hosting allows for deeper immersion, especially with lighting, music, and setting design. Whether you choose a digital séance or a live ritual around a dining table, the game works flawlessly in either setting—and the haunting ambiance lingers long after the final reveal.

The game typically lasts between 1.5 to 3 hours. Groups with strong focus and fewer players may complete it in 90 minutes, while larger or more theatrical groups—especially those incorporating thematic breaks, eerie sound design, or immersive décor—may play for the full three hours. The pacing is flexible; the host can move clues along briskly or slow things down for suspense-building. Whether it’s a fast-paced investigation or a slow-burning night of unraveling evil, the game’s timing adjusts easily to your event style.

This game kit includes all the materials needed to host a chilling, immersive mystery grounded in supernatural suspense. You’ll receive:

– A detailed instruction booklet that helps you assign roles, prepare the setting, and guide the event with confidence.

– Each player receives a unique role, including secrets, motivations, alibis, and eerie ties to the possessed—or the possession.

– Documents such as exorcism records, cursed diary pages, sacred relics, and fragmented recordings that unlock the mystery piece by piece.

– Optional storytelling segments delivered in the voice of a priest, demon, or narrator to move the plot forward and set the mood.

– Themed invitations that resemble ancient scrolls, confidential clergy reports, or occult warning letters.

– Suggestions for character-appropriate attire (vestments, ritual robes, tattered clothing) and décor (candles, Latin texts, chalk circles).

– At the final stage, players cast their accusations and attempt to unmask both the murderer—and possibly the host of a greater evil.

The kit provides everything needed to conjure an unforgettable evening of fear and mystery.

Yes – the game is designed with replayability in mind. The murderer’s identity can be randomized each time you play, ensuring that no two sessions are exactly the same. Replaying with different character assignments or player groups uncovers new layers of interaction, motivations, and relationships. Whether you’re hosting it again next Halloween or reliving the ritual with a fresh circle of guests, each game offers a distinct experience—haunting in its own right.

This game is ideal for events that embrace the paranormal, the theatrical, or the spine-tingling. It works especially well for:

– A perfect match for dark décor, spooky soundtracks, and ritualistic fun.

– Bring friends together for a suspense-filled evening with candles and cursed artifacts.

– Great for horror fans and true-crime enthusiasts looking for something dramatic and unique.

– A compelling addition to a night of supernatural discussion and mystery.

– Pair the game with classics like The Exorcist or Hereditary for a fully immersive fright night.

– Ideal for late-night gatherings when the veil feels thin.

If your guests enjoy immersive storytelling, eerie suspense, and a brush with the unknown, this game is a perfect fit.

This mystery game is best suited for players aged 15 and above. The themes involve murder, possession, faith, and fear—handled tastefully, but with enough complexity and intensity to be most appropriate for older teens and adults. There's no graphic content, but the psychological and supernatural elements require a degree of maturity and focus. It’s a particularly good choice for those who enjoy serious roleplay, horror fiction, or atmospheric mysteries with a dark twist.

Costumes are optional but highly recommended to deepen the atmosphere. Characters range from clergy and occultists to cursed witnesses and ritual participants—each offering unique visual inspiration. Guests might wear dark robes, crosses, old-fashioned attire, rosaries, or items marked with runes or symbols. Even subtle costume additions—like smudged makeup, blood-stained sleeves, or crucifix accessories—help transform the game from casual to chilling. Hosts can include costume suggestions in the invitations to get guests in the mood for ritual and revelation.

Yes – the game supports up to 20 players with the use of optional expansion packs. These add-on characters—such as mysterious witnesses, additional priests, demonologists, or secret cult members—seamlessly fit into the core narrative. Each expansion role comes with backstory, objectives, and connections to the central mystery. Whether your group is 6 or 20 souls strong, the experience remains balanced, engaging, and suspenseful. Just choose the correct expansion to match your guest list and prepare the space for more unholy revelations.

Yes – the host can participate as a character without spoiling the mystery. The murderer is kept secret unless the host chooses to review the solution beforehand, allowing full immersion. Alternatively, the host can assume a special guiding role, such as the lead exorcist, narrator, or omniscient entity that controls the ritual. Whether in-character or behind the scenes, the host can help manage the pace, deliver clues, and ensure a suspenseful experience—all while staying part of the haunting fun.
