PLOT

Murder At Moorbourne Manor

You accepted an invite to Moorbourne Manor, a sprawling mansion on the edge of Dartmoor, to hear the personal reading of Lord Victor Moorbourne’s last will and testament. It’s the 30th November 1899 and Lord Moorbourne doesn’t expect to see the turn of the century. Possibly due to his ailing health, his lordship has developed a conscience and wishes to right the wrongs of his past.

Following his reading, Lord Moorbourne invited you and the rest of the guests to stay on at the mansion to enjoy the generous food and drink that he had provided. He then retired to his study.

However, just as the party was coming to an end, the evening took a gruesome turn- Lord Moorbourne’s temporary maid, Violet Smith, discovered his murdered body slumped across his desk! She let out a scream that must’ve reached the four corners of Dartmoor.

Devon & Cornwall Police were contacted, and Detective Leslie Hughes arrived on the scene.

Sherlock Holmes Murder Mystery Hébergez votre propre kit de jeu FAQs

A Sherlock Holmes–style murder mystery game is ideal for those who love logical deduction, layered puzzles, and old-fashioned intrigue. Set in a Victorian-era drawing room, a foggy London street, or a prestigious gentleman’s club, this genre of game invites players to step into the world of private investigations, pipe smoke, and polished clues. A shocking murder has occurred, and every guest is a suspect with a motive. With carefully plotted clues, elegant settings, and a tone of classic British suspense, this game is perfect for fans of detective fiction and cerebral whodunits.

Yes, the game works perfectly for 10 players. The standard version accommodates between 4 and 14 participants, and 10 is an excellent number to ensure every player gets a meaningful role. The game is designed to be flexible, so it’s easy to adjust if your group size changes. Whether it’s a formal dinner or a fireside gathering, 10 guests will experience a richly interactive, well-balanced mystery.

Yes, the game can be played either in person or virtually. For in-person events, the Victorian theme shines in candlelit parlors, study rooms, or moody dining tables. If playing online, character sheets and clues can be distributed digitally, and the dialogue-driven format translates well to video calls. Whether gathered around a fireplace or dialing in from afar, the mystery stays immersive and engaging.

Most games take between 1.5 and 3 hours depending on group size and pace. A 10-player group usually completes the game in about two hours, though larger or more theatrical gatherings may stretch longer. The game’s pacing is adjustable—you can run it as a fast-paced deduction challenge or as an evening-long affair with breaks for food and discussion.

The kit contains everything you need to host a full-scale mystery in true detective fashion. This includes a host guide with detailed instructions, individual character briefs with secrets and motives, sets of clues and evidence to be revealed during gameplay, optional narration scripts to help guide transitions, printable invitations, and end-of-game voting cards. You’ll also receive suggestions for Victorian-era costumes, period decor, and background music to enhance the ambiance.

Yes, the game is designed for replayability. The culprit can be assigned randomly, allowing different outcomes with each playthrough. Even if players are familiar with the structure, rotating roles and introducing new guests keeps the mystery feeling fresh. Whether used for seasonal parties or recurring game nights, it holds up well with multiple sessions.

This type of mystery is well suited for a wide range of events. It’s an excellent choice for;

Dinner parties, historical or literary-themed evenings, book clubs, corporate events, team-building retreats, or elegant birthday celebrations.

It also works wonderfully for autumn or winter gatherings where candlelight, warm drinks, and classic storytelling are part of the experience.

Any event that appreciates mystery, intellect, and period drama will be elevated by this style of game.

This game is recommended for ages 15 and up. While the content is clean and non-graphic, the dialogue and clue-solving elements are best enjoyed by teens and adults who appreciate deductive logic and character-driven storytelling. It’s especially popular among players who enjoy mystery novels, period dramas, or detective-themed TV and film.

Costumes are not required, but they are highly encouraged to enhance the immersive feel. Guests can wear Victorian-inspired outfits, tweed jackets, pocket watches, cloaks, or subtle accessories like hats, gloves, or magnifying glasses. Character guides include costume suggestions, and even simple touches can bring the atmosphere of 1890s London to life. A relaxed dress code is also fine if you prefer comfort with a thematic twist.

Yes, the game can be expanded to accommodate up to 20 players. Expansion character packs are available, each offering a unique role tied into the central mystery. These additional characters are crafted with full backstories, clues, and logical motives, allowing them to integrate seamlessly into the existing plot. Whether you’re hosting an intimate salon or a full-scale banquet, the structure keeps the gameplay balanced and inclusive.

Yes, the host can absolutely play along. The game is structured so the solution remains hidden unless you choose to view it in advance. This means you can assign roles, distribute materials, and still fully participate as a character. If you prefer to facilitate without competing, you can adopt the role of a neutral narrator or moderator in a period-appropriate style. Both options work well, depending on your preference and event format.
