The Case

Play Bckwards - Cold Case - Winter 2026 Release

1985. Serenity County High. A storm blackout. Five students in detention.

Beneath the school, a hidden Cold War shelter still hums with forgotten broadcast equipment, wired into the new computer lab above. When a cassette is played backwards through the old relay system, the school slips into something impossible: a corrupted mirror-version of itself.
By morning, Vice Principal Harris is dead, student Mara Vale has vanished, and the survivors’ stories don’t match.

Forty years later, the buried infrastructure is disturbed, Mara returns unchanged in age but altered by whatever took her, and the cold case reopens.

Players must solve the murder, clear the missing girl, and uncover what really came through when Serenity County High played the wrong tape backwards.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

How do I receive my cold case file?

The moment you buy, you're given secure access to your case portal — sign in and reopen the dossier to examine, download or print every file. Choose a physical edition and a beautifully made boxed kit is also posted to your door.

How many people can play?

Play solo, or team up with a partner. Cold cases are a one or two-player investigation — ideal for date night or a quiet night in.

How long does it take?

Most cases take around 1–2 hours, and there's no timer. Work through the evidence at your own pace and pick it back up whenever you like.

Do I need to print anything?

Not at all — you can examine everything in your case portal on any device. Print the files if you'd like to spread the evidence out, or work from the posted kit with a physical edition.

What if I get stuck?

Every case includes a built-in hint system and a full solution, so you're never truly stuck.

Can I play it more than once?

Each case has one solution, so the reveal lands hardest on your first play. Many detectives pass their solved case on to a friend afterwards — it makes a great gift.

What device should I use?

For digital editions, a computer or tablet is best for examining the documents and photographs in detail. Physical editions come ready to spread out on the table.

What age is it suitable for?

Most cases suit teens and adults. A few carry mature true-crime themes — the product description flags anything stronger.
