Gather your friends around for margaritas and murder and host a spring murder mystery party.  Today we’ll look at how to create some refreshing spring cocktails that promise to keep your guests guessing and sipping in delight. From the first clue to the last reveal, these drinks are crafted to complement the twists and turns of your mystery night, so ready your cocktail shaker; it's time to stir up some intrigue and toast to the season of renewal and revelation.

*Disclaimer: To make some of these cocktails you will need a cocktail shaker and/or a muddler/ These can be purchased at many home/retail stores or online if you don not already own them.

 

 Cocktails! 

Why not sip on the intrigue of spring with Lavender Lemonade Martini, where the zesty lemonade meets lavender whispers, perfect for unravelling secrets at your next garden whodunit! To make a Lavender Lemonade Martini you will need: -

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz lavender syrup
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • Lemon twist, for garnish
  • Ice

Instructions: Fill a shaker with ice and then add the vodka, lavender syrup, and fresh lemon juice. Shake well until chilled and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

 

The Cucumber Mint Spritzer is another refreshing concoction that combines the coolness of cucumber and the kick of mint creating an invigorating cocktail idea. To make a Cucumber Mint Spritzer you will need:-

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz gin
  • 4 slices of cucumber
  • 6 mint leaves, plus more for garnish
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • Soda water
  • Ice

Instructions: Muddle the cucumber slices and mint leaves in the bottom of a shaker and then add ice, gin, lime juice, and simple syrup. Shake well and strain into an ice-filled glass. Top it off with soda water and garnish with mint leaves.

 

A Grapefruit Elderflower Cocktail is a toast to intrigue where the tartness of grapefruit dances with the floral notes of elderflower in this sophisticated drink.  To make the Grapefruit Elderflower Cocktail you will need:-

  • 2 oz gin
  • 1 oz elderflower liqueur
  • 2 oz grapefruit juice
  • Splash of soda water
  • Grapefruit slice, for garnish
  • Ice

Instructions: Fill a shaker with ice and  add gin, elderflower liqueur, and grapefruit juice. Shake until chilled and then strain into an ice-filled glass. Top with a splash of soda water and garnish with a grapefruit slice.

 

Try a Cherry Blossom Fizz, where the delicate flavours of cherry and a bubbly fizz come together in a drink that blooms with secrets, perfect for sipping as you decipher clues under the spring sky. To make the Cherry Blossom Fizz you will need:-

  • 2 oz gin
  • 1 oz fresh cherry juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • Soda water
  • cherry and lemon peel, for garnish

Instructions: In a shaker filled with ice, combine the gin,  cherry juice, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Shake well and strain into an ice-filled glass. Top with soda water and garnish with a cherry.

 

Why not try Pink Sangria? A refreshing mix of rosé, fruit, and a hint of sparkle, taking you on a journey through the lush orchards of mystery and springtime fun! To make Pink Sangria you will need:-

  • 1 bottle of rosé wine
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup club soda or sparkling water
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1/2 cup raspberries
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • Ice

Instructions: In a large pitcher, mix the rosé wine, brandy, and sugar until the sugar dissolves. Add the sliced strawberries, raspberries, and lemon slices. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight to allow the flavours to meld. Just before serving, add the club soda and stir gently. Serve over ice in wine glasses.

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz apricot puree
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • Champagne or sparkling wine
  • Apricot slice, for garnish
  • Ice

Instructions: In a shaker filled with ice, combine vodka, apricot puree, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Shake well until chilled and strain into a champagne flute. Top with champagne or sparkling wine and garnish with an apricot slice.

 

Why not try a simple Orange Margarita? To make this you will need:-

  • 2 oz tequila
  • 1 oz orange liqueur
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 2 oz fresh orange juice
  • Salt for the rim of the glass
  • Orange slice and lime wheel for garnish
  • Ice

Instructions: Start by running a lime wedge around the rim of your margarita glass to moisten it. Dip the rim in salt, turning the glass until the rim is evenly coated and then set aside. In a shaker, combine the tequila, orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, and fresh orange juice. Add ice to the shaker until it is about halfway full and then shake vigorously for about 15 seconds or until the outside of the shaker feels cold. Fill your prepared glass with fresh ice and strain the mixture from the shaker into the glass. Garnish with an orange slice and a lime wheel.

 

A great spring favourite is the classic Bloody Mary, a savoury cocktail known for its complex flavours. Here's how to make a traditional Bloody Mary:-

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 4 oz tomato juice
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • 2 dashes of Tabasco sauce
  • 2 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
  • Pinch of salt and pepper
  • Celery salt
  • 1 celery stalk, for garnish
  • 1 lemon wedge, for garnish

Instructions: using a lemon wedge run it along the rim of the glass and then dip the rim into a plate of celery salt. Fill the glass with ice cubes to keep your drink chilled. In a shaker combine the vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, Tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and a pinch of salt and pepper and add a few ice cubes. Shake gently and then pour into the glass. Garnish your Bloody Mary with a celery stalk and a lemon wedge.

 Mocktails!

Not to worry if you don’t want to drink alcohol. These non-alcoholic drinks are just as intriguing and flavourful as their spirited counterparts, ensuring everyone at your party can enjoy a delicious, thematic beverage.

The Lavender Lemon Sparkler is made with:-

  • 1 oz lavender  syrup
  • 2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • Sparkling water
  • Lemon slice and lavender sprig for garnish

Instructions: In a glass filled with ice, combine lavender simple syrup and fresh lemon juice. Top with sparkling water and stir gently to mix and garnish with a lemon slice and a sprig of lavender.

 

The Cucumber Mint Cooler is made with: -

  • 3 slices of cucumber
  • 5 mint leaves
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • Soda water (instead of gin)
  • Mint sprig and cucumber slice for garnish

 

Instructions: Muddle cucumber slices and mint leaves in the bottom of a shaker. Add lime juice and simple syrup with ice, and shake well. Strain into an ice-filled glass and top with soda water. Add garnish of mint sprig and a cucumber slice.

 

Why not make a Ginger Grapefruit Fizz for your T-Total guests?  To make a Ginger Grapefruit Fizz you will need:-

  • 2 oz grapefruit juice
  • 1/2 oz ginger syrup
  • Sparkling water
  • Grapefruit slice and crystallized ginger for garnish

Instructions: Fill a glass with ice and add grapefruit juice and ginger syrup. Top with sparkling water and stir to combine. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit and a piece of crystallized ginger.

 

 

Finally why not try a Peachy Keen Sparkler? Made with :-

  • 2 oz peach nectar
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz honey syrup (equal parts honey and water, heated until honey dissolves, then cooled)
  • Sparkling water (instead of voka)
  • Peach slice and mint leaf for garnish

Instructions: In a glass filled with ice, combine peach nectar, lemon juice, and honey syrup. Top with sparkling water and gently stir. You can garnish with a peach slice and a mint leaf.
