PLOT

High Noon At Dead Man’s Saloon

It’s 1870 in the town of Dead Man, Kansas, USA. There’s a big crowd whoopin’ it up in Dead Man’s Saloon. The clock on the wall shows high noon—but then, it always does. All at once, word spreads that there’s going to be a shootout on Main Street. The crowd rushes outside to watch, but the street is deserted. Suddenly, two shots ring out from behind them, inside the saloon.

When the crowd hurries back in, they find the dead body of Deputy Drinkwater, shot through the heart. Somebody must have stayed behind to do the evil deed. Was it One-Eyed Pete, the black-hatted outlaw? Or Patty Petticoat, the saloon dancer with the mysterious past? Or Waylin Straum, the singing cowpuncher?

Who knows, pardner? Maybe it was—YOU!

The Wild West murder mystery is recommended for ages 15 and up. It’s written with teens and adults in mind, combining suspense, character roleplay, and narrative depth that older players will appreciate. While there is no inappropriate content, the storyline involves a murder and includes clues that require some deductive thinking, which may not be ideal for younger children. Teen participants who enjoy storytelling or Western films will love it, and adults of all ages find the theme easy to get into. It’s best suited for mixed-age groups where everyone can enjoy the gritty drama and outlaw vibes.

Costumes are entirely optional but highly encouraged—they truly elevate the Wild West atmosphere. Guests can come dressed as saloon singers, cowboys, ranchers, or local lawmen to add flavor and immersion to the event. The kit provides costume suggestions for each character, helping guests pull together simple or elaborate looks. Even accessories like bandanas, vests, or toy badges go a long way in making the night feel authentic. If you’re hosting, you can suggest a dress code in your invites to get everyone excited. Costumes aren’t required, but they do add extra fun (and great photo ops) to your Western murder mystery night.
