PLOT

Murder on Broadway

Its 1953 and murder mystery writer Agnes Kirtsie’s debut play “The Trap” opens on Broadway after celebrating it’s 25th birthday in the West End. Celebrated stars from across the continent have been invited to the very exclusive opening night performance and cocktail party at Broadway’s ‘La Souris’ Theatre.

The Show is a huge success and as guests move into the grand hall for the after party there’s no sign of director Cameron James in fact no one has seen him since the interval. He was quite an eccentric character but it’s still unusual for him to not be at a party. Suddenly there’s a crash followed by a scream coming from the stage as guests run back into the auditorium a panicked stagehand is standing next to the open wardrobe the dead body of director Cameron James crumpled in a heap in front of them.

How long has he been dead? Was he on stage dead the whole time? How did he die? And whodunit? It’s up to you to find out.

Broadway Murder Mystery Game Kit FAQs

A Broadway-themed murder mystery game is a show-stopping experience that combines theatrical flair with thrilling mystery. Set behind the curtains of a dazzling theatre production, this immersive game lets players step into the roles of actors, producers, directors, and critics—all with secrets to hide. When a sudden death strikes just before opening night, the stage becomes a crime scene, and the cast must investigate while keeping the spotlight on. With its drama-filled setting, rivalries, and spotlight-worthy plot twists, this game is perfect for fans of musicals, theatre, and high-stakes showbiz storytelling.

Yes – 10 players is an ideal group size for this Broadway murder mystery experience. The standard version includes roles for 4–14 participants, so 10 guests fits comfortably within the recommended range. Each character—whether a rising star, washed-up diva, cynical critic, or stressed stage manager—comes with unique motives, secrets, and connections to the mystery. If a guest cancels or an extra joins, the flexible casting ensures smooth adjustments. With 10 guests, you’ll have plenty of theatrical tension and enough characters to keep the plot twisty, without overwhelming first-time players.

Yes – the Broadway-themed murder mystery works brilliantly both in person and online. You can host it as a glamorous theatre-night at home or gather your cast virtually for a Zoom production full of backstabbing and bravado. The character briefs, clues, and scripts can be shared digitally or printed, and the game’s dialogue-rich style is ideal for video calls or living room performances alike. Whether you’re seated around a table or appearing on-screen in costume, the theatre world comes alive with suspense and sparkle in either format.

Most groups will complete the game in 1.5 to 3 hours. Smaller casts with efficient pacing might wrap up in under two hours, while larger or more theatrical players may take the full three, especially if you incorporate musical interludes, costume contests, or a dinner break between acts. The host can pace the game to suit the event, making it ideal for evening entertainment or a featured segment in a themed party. However long you play, the night will be filled with spotlight moments, bold accusations, and dramatic monologues.

Everything you need to stage the perfect theatrical whodunit is included in the kit. Here’s what you’ll receive:

– A step-by-step manual to help you assign roles, manage game flow, and direct your cast through the mystery.

– Detailed profiles for each role, including backstory, motives, relationships, and scripted prompts tailored for maximum drama.

– Themed documents such as rehearsal notes, backstage memos, gossip articles, and call sheets that reveal key information throughout the game.

– Optional scene-setting segments delivered as a stage director, narrator, or theatre ghost to guide transitions and plot developments.

– Theatre-themed invites resembling playbills or casting calls to get your guests into the Broadway spirit.

– Inspiration for dressing your part—sequins, scarves, tuxedos, or rehearsal attire—and ideas for setting the scene backstage or in a grand theatre lobby.

With everything provided, you can direct a mystery worthy of a standing ovation.
