Male, the ring master. He's responsible for introducing each act and keeping the audience engaged during act changes. He started working in a circus with his brother about 20 years ago. Back then, they were just two lads with a dream. After about a decade of working for other people, they stepped out on their own and set up their own circus and opened The Burnum Brothers Big Top. He's charming and charismatic, a flirt who knows just what to say. It's a shame it's all an act. He's greedy and selfish with no real feelings not even for his wife.He uses his charms to get what he wants and will chew you up and spit you out after he's got what he needs.

Female, the manager of the circus. She keeps the accounts in order and organises the performance venues, books the acts etc. She's from a good family with a good education but was under a lot of pressure to become successful, join her family business etc. The pressure became too much so after meeting the charismatic R.M Burnum, she rebelled against the life laid out for her and ran away with him. They married young and it was great for a few years.They saw the world and had lots of adventures but when it was suggested they set their own circus up, things got serious. Suddenly she was under a lot of pressure again and the romance died.

Female, she's a wannabe actress who's a strong woman and wants to make a difference in the world and change the attitude towards women in Hollywood from within. She worked as the assistant to Blade Burnum, the knife thrower. It was just meant to be a way to pay for college, that didn't involve waiting tables or taking her clothes off. She thought she'd work a year or so to earn enough money for drama school. However, at the current rate, it'll be at years before she can even think about going to drama school and, by then, no one will take her seriously.

Male, the strong man and one of the "freaks" at the circus. He's tall and he's wide – he can lift a truck with his bare hands. He looks quite scary looking but is one of the nicest people. He cares about everyone especially those unable to protect themselves, but he lacks confidence. He gets really nervous when he's talking and will often stumble over his words. He's often called stupid because of his struggles with speaking and won't always stand up for himself.

Female, known as the bearded lady, she's one of the "freaks" in the circus. She's got a beautiful voice and people love to hear her sing. She tried to make it as a performer, but she has a beard. No matter how often she shaves it just grows back and she was laughed off the stage, so she just gave up trying to get rid of it and got a job in the circus instead. She's just as capable and just as beautiful as the other dancers and showgirls such as Lola and Dee, but she's never allowed to play "the sexy dancer". She lacks confidence and has been bullied her whole life and is quite nervous and shy. She tries to avoid attention where possible.

At the grand height of 1.5ft, Tai is one of the “freaks” at the circus. They’re often the centre piece of big displays because they can be concealed in boxes, behind fans and flowers, and always get a laugh when they waddle out into the ring on their tiny legs. They’re very loud for such a small person, swears like a sailor and drinks like a Viking. They like to be the life of the party. There’s just one ‘small’ problem. They look like a child, and no one takes them seriously. They can never get served and they can never get laid. Their frustration has led them to become quite an angry person and the Burnum brothers don’t treat them any better than the rest of the world.

Male, one of half of the flying duo. Sexy and strong he loves the attention from all the ladies when he's walking the tight rope, swinging on the trapeze, or hanging from leather straps suspended in the air. He works with Aria List and the pair amaze and dazzle as they glide and swing through the air. He loves the circus life, and it loves him. He has the largest fan base of all the acts and is known as a bit of a lady's man. He's had a fling with all of the dancers and assistants one time or another.

Female, the other half of the flying duo. She's graceful and elegant as well as gorgeous and can sail through the air as easily as bird or a leaf in the wind. She's smart and independent and doesn't like to commit to one person. She has sort of been seeing Blade Burnum for a while now, but they've never been official. He has tons of affairs but that doesn't bother her. She has her eye on something else anyway.

Female, the contortionist and one of the “freaks” in the circus. Very flexible and able to twist her body into all sorts of shapes. Unlike the other freaks though, she’s treated quite well, has a bigger trailer and is given lots of gifts. She’s confident and rather shallow, will always talk down to people and acts like she’s better than everyone else because she’s the ring master’s favourite. She’s used to getting her way and can get quite angry if she doesn’t get what she wants. She acts a bit like a spoilt child most of the time and has a very diva-ish attitude. No one likes her and she doesn’t really like anyone.

Male, one half of the clown pair. He likes to think he's the head clown. He's very cocky and confident and can be quite bossy towards some of the other acts. He does funny very well, but tends to hide behind that, and doesn't really play well with others. He often behaves quite arrogantly when he's out of costume. He was one of the people that loaned the Burnum brothers quite a bit of money to set the circus up, and demands quite a bit of stage time because of it. He likes to be the centre of attention and doesn't like it when the spotlight isn't on him.

Works with Norm as the other half of the clown duo. No one really knows much about them. They don't really talk about their past and they don't really like the spotlight. They're quite happy to be in the background, to let Norm take the lead and do all of the big scene stealing moments. When they're not performing, they tend to hide in their trailer and not really socialise very much with the other characters. Their loner attitude means a lot of the other company members just ignore them and don't invite them anywhere which suits them fine.

Female, the showgirl of the circus. She's the one who has the best costumes and gets the crowd worked up at the start of the show and in between acts with her baton twirling and acrobatics. In her mind, she's the hottest girl in the team and she's the only one that Blade Burnum should be interested in. She's a bit of a diva and likes to be the centre of attention. She's in love with Blade and doesn't really like it if anyone else gets close to him and she can become quite spiteful and vindictive if she feels threatened by anyone. She's unbalanced and slightly insane although tries to hide it.

Female, one of the showgirls in the circus. She knows she's got far more talent than Lola and could quite easily knock her off the top spot, but doesn't really see the point. Both the brothers like her, and she knows that she can get what she wants from them. She joined the circus to gain a bit of life experience but all she really wants is to be a ballet dancer on a real stage. She's bored and so amuses herself by stirring up trouble, causing arguments and manipulating people around her. She hopes if the circus falls apart, she can get out.

Male, one of the stuntmen at the circus. He's fierce, French, and scared of nothing. He came from quite a rich family who are quite well known and respected and who paid for his circus training. He's enthusiastic and cheerful and will flirt, drink and party with most people. Often buying rounds. He talks very fast and a lot and is sometimes a bit difficult to understand because he'll use complicated jargon and various French words.

Male, the other stuntman in the circus. No one really knows where he came from, but he's had very extensive training, possible military, but he won't admit to that, in fact there isn't a lot he will admit to. When asked about his past, he just says his parents died young, he had to fend for himself and doesn't want to talk about it. He's mysterious and secretive, rumours about his origins span from Russian spy to orphaned American aristocrat. He doesn't deny or confirm any theories and keeps his answers short and vague.

Male, the magician of the circus and one of the big acts. He's given a lot of stage time, but always wants more. He gave quite a bit of money to the Burnum brothers to help them set up the circus. A great illusionist and known for being mysterious and alluring. Has the ability to hypnotise people and manipulate them and often does that on unsuspecting fans. He likes being in the spotlight and getting his way and will do whatever it takes to make sure he gets the attention he needs.

Female, magician's assistant. She's 18 and has only been with the circus for a few months. The original assistant had a "family emergency" right at the time she turned up and as they had a show that night, she stepped in and was hired for the rest of the tour. Her mother works as a waitress in a coffee shop. She knows who her father is, but he was never around, and she resents him for it. Most of the time, she's friendly, cheerful, hardworking and seems to know a lot about the circus. She's been obsessed with it ever since she was little.

Is responsible for getting the tents up and securing the beams and the various equipment the performers use. They literally save lives but are unappreciated, they work long hours for low pay and are constantly talked down to or ignored completely. This has made them quite angry and bitter. They're short tempered and just about ready to walk out and leave them circus.

They work as part of the circus crew. They've been a fan of the circus all of their life, and know all about it. Their main job is usually fixing things such as damaged tents, chipped paint, wonky pipes. They're responsible for maintaining the equipment and are one of the few people who have full access to every part of the circus. They're rather shy and quiet; often slipping unnoticed around the site. Being invisible means that they know a lot of secrets and are usually a good source of information if anyone wants to find out about anything.

Female, a singer who ran away from home to join the circus but has no circus skills. She's always dreamed that by working in the circus maybe she could learn some other skills and become a singing stuntwoman or something, anything as long as she was performing, but no one will take the time to teach her any actual circus skills and no one believes that singing really belongs on the circus, so they don't let her even do that. Instead, she's ended up just selling popcorn and drinks.
