PLOT

A Graduation To Die For

The International College of Freethinkers (ICOF), a school for nonconformist students from all over the English-speaking world, is holding its graduation ceremony. The professors and guest speakers are on the platform, wearing caps and gowns from their own graduations. The graduates are in the audience, each wearing their own decorated version of the ICOF cap and gown. Everyone wants to get through the ceremony as quickly as possible and get on with the celebrations.

Then, Dean Eyall gets up and makes one of his usual sneering speeches, where he “amusingly” demeans the students, faculty and guests. After lukewarm applause, he sits on the platform and takes a nap while the other speakers drone on and the graduates receive their diplomas.

As the ceremony ends, the Dean is still sleeping—or is he? When someone taps his shoulder, he topples over dead, with a bloodstained handle protruding from the centre of his chest.

Who stabbed him? Was it a guest speaker passing him on the way back to their seat? Was it a graduate marching past his chair on the way to the podium? Was it a professor shuffling around on the crowded platform? Could it have been YOU?

"A Graduation to Die For" Murder Mystery Game Kit - Themed Party Fun FAQs

A graduation-themed murder mystery game is a perfect mix of celebration and suspense. Set during a high school or college graduation ceremony, afterparty, or final-year event, the game takes a twist when someone winds up dead—or suddenly disappears—before they can walk the stage. With tensions high, secrets exposed, and reputations on the line, every guest becomes a suspect. It’s a fun and dramatic way to mark the end of a school journey, adding excitement and storytelling to your celebration.

Yes, this game works very well for 10 players. The base version supports 4 to 14 roles, and 10 offers a great balance between character interaction, group dynamics, and pacing. Each guest is assigned a unique role connected to the graduation event, complete with secrets and clues. The flexible format also makes it easy to adapt if someone cancels or an extra person shows up last minute.

Yes, the game works for both formats. Whether you're celebrating in a decorated backyard, a school gym, a rented venue, or online, the experience is just as engaging. All materials can be printed or shared digitally, and the clue-based format works great over video call. Whether your group is together in person or celebrating across the country, the mystery plays out seamlessly.

The kit includes everything needed to host the mystery. It comes with a full host guide to help you prepare and run the game, character sheets for each guest (including their background, clues, and personal goals), printed or digital evidence files, scripted narration for transitions between rounds, customizable invitations, and final voting cards. There are also tips for setting the scene, including music, décor, and dress code suggestions that fit a graduation theme.

There are also tips for setting the scene, including music, décor, and dress code suggestions that fit a graduation theme.

Yes, the game is fully replayable. The culprit can be randomly selected each time, which means the story can end in a different way with each run. You can also reuse the mystery with new guests or reshuffle character assignments to keep things fresh for a second group—or even the same one. It’s a great way to get more value from one kit.

This game is perfect for graduation parties, senior week events, school reunions, prom afterparties, end-of-year class celebrations, college send-offs, and other milestone moments. It adds structure and entertainment to your gathering and helps bring guests together in a fun, collaborative way. Whether your group is dressing up for a cap-and-gown dinner or hanging out in casual wear, this mystery adds excitement to any end-of-year event.

The game is designed for players aged 15 and up. It’s written for teens and young adults, especially high school seniors, college students, and recent grads. The content is clean and appropriate for school events but involves character secrets, rivalries, and mysteries best suited to older teens and adults. It’s also great for mixed-age family gatherings celebrating a graduate.

Costumes aren’t required, but guests are encouraged to dress according to the theme of the event. This could be formalwear for a graduation party, school colors for a senior night, or just fun and expressive outfits that fit the personalities assigned in the game. The character sheets include costume suggestions, but everyone is free to participate at their own level of comfort.

Yes, the game can be expanded to support up to 20 players with optional add-on character packs. These additional roles are fully integrated into the mystery and provide new suspects with their own goals and connections to the storyline. Whether you're hosting a small party or a full graduating class, everyone gets to join in the fun.

Yes, the host can definitely play. The solution is hidden unless the host chooses to review it in advance, so you can fully participate as a guest while still organizing the event. If you prefer to act as a narrator or guide, the host script helps you stay in control while remaining part of the story. No separate game master is required, so you can run the show and enjoy the experience.
