How many people can play?
Play solo, or team up with a partner. Cold cases are a one or two-player investigation — ideal for date night or a quiet night in.
How long does it take?
Most solvers spend somewhere between one and two hours working through the Where Is Santa cold case, though there is no clock ticking. You can move at your own pace, following the trail across the North Sea and the UK as you piece together what happened to Santa.
With over 25 pieces of evidence to examine, including suspect files, workshop blueprints, news reports and a map tracking Santa's last known path, you can take it all in one sitting or break your investigation across several shorter sessions.
Do I need to print anything?
Not at all — you can examine everything in your case portal on any device. Print the files if you'd like to spread the evidence out, or work from the posted kit with a physical edition.
What if I get stuck?
Every case includes a built-in hint system and a full solution, so you're never truly stuck.
Can I play it more than once?
Each case has one solution, so the reveal lands hardest the first time. Plenty of detectives go back through the evidence afterwards to catch what they walked straight past — and when you're ready for a fresh investigation, there's a whole library of cases waiting.
What device should I use?
For digital editions, a computer or tablet is best for examining the documents and photographs in detail. Physical editions come ready to spread out on the table.
What age is it suitable for?
The case involves reading through detailed suspect files, news reports and blueprints, so it is best suited to older children, teenagers and adults who enjoy piecing clues together.
Younger family members can still get involved and enjoy the festive Christmas theme, and a built-in hint system means help is on hand if anyone gets stuck along the way.
We purchased the digital version, simply because the physical one was sold out! I decided to print off all the pages of evidence so everything could be passed around. We played with my kids (16, 14, 10) and my parents on Christmas Eve. Not so difficult that my youngest felt out of the loop, but not so easy that the older crowd solved it too fast.
It was lots of fun. Some of the game was a little confusing to the younger (7&8 year olds) children, but the teens kept things moving and had a memorable time!
We had a lot of fun over Christmas with the Where is Santa mystery. Niece and nephew got really involved and enjoyed it. Will definitely doing more of these mysteries!
This was a fun mystery we worked on with family and friends from out of town on Christmas Eve. So the theme fit well. It was a good time by all, and much better than sitting around watching tv. We were all engaged and working on clues and contributing. From age 25-70, we were all invested and enjoyed the evening solving the "who done it".
This was great fun! We played as a family of 4 & everyone got involved . We had the physical game pack. It was well worth the money as every item was very high quality, much better than it would have been if we'd printed them out. As you don't need to write on any of the materials you can play the game more than once.
Will definitely be looking at getting some more of these.
The kit was lovely - excellent quality. However for us we really needed a bit more guidance on what we were actually looking for. Also there was a whole lot of reading which made it more of an individual endeavour - perhaps come up with slightly shorter clues and allocate them to people so they can read their bit and contribute? Perhaps that is what you are meant to do but it wasn’t obvious to us. Good luck!
There were 6 of us and while it took us a little bit to understand the first step, once we got gist of what we were doing it made for lively and robust discussion to reach further conclusions and the end.
The Christmas murder mystery was a brilliant date night activity. We loved piecing the evidence together. The balance of structure and acting worked well for us.
We unfortunately had trouble logging onto the lobby -the website kept crashing and restarting and skip to acts 2 and 3 where we then saw answers. Cute idea however but probably extra traffic on the site playing the unsolved cold case with Santa on Xmas eve.
We really enjoyed working through the Christmas murder mystery. It felt satisfying when everything started to connect. The theme helped even the quiet players join in.
