PLOT

Mystery Of The Magic Pencil

It’s W. D. Snee's un birthday party, and many of his favourite characters have gathered at the Castle for the big day. The great Celebration Gallery is filled with singing princesses, charming princes, scheming villains and clowning sidekicks.

To celebrate, everyone helped create a special present for W. D. Snee—a magic pencil that brings stories to life, whether on paper, animation cel, or as a stylus on a computer screen. Whoever holds it will have the power to tell any story they want!

But when W. D. opens the casket, there's nothing inside. The music stops suddenly as everyone realizes what has happened. Someone has stolen the magic pencil—and it must have been someone in this room!

Was it someone who wanted to change how their story ended? Someone who wanted to stop anyone else from changing their story? Maybe it was—YOU!

Kids Murder Mystery Game Kit - Mystery of the Magic Pencil FAQs

A magic pencil–themed murder mystery game blends creativity, enchantment, and mystery into one imaginative adventure. Set in a magical world where characters, creatures, and stories are brought to life with a powerful pencil, the game takes a dramatic turn when the pencil is misused—and someone ends up erased or enchanted forever. With fairytale energy, animated twists, and secrets hiding behind colorful facades, this game is perfect for fans of magical realms, Disney-style charm, and heartwarming stories with a mysterious edge.

Yes, 10 players is an ideal number for this game. The standard version supports 4 to 14 characters, and a 10-person cast allows for plenty of magical interactions and balanced storylines. Each guest receives a unique character—possibly a talking animal, reimagined villain, enchanted object, or animated creation—complete with secrets and personal motives tied to the pencil’s mysterious powers. The format is flexible for last-minute changes to the guest list.

Yes, the game can be played either virtually or in person. For in-person events, it pairs wonderfully with storybook decorations, themed snacks, and dress-up fun. For virtual play, character sheets and clues can be shared online, and the playful, dialogue-driven format works well over video calls. Whether you’re gathered around a dining table or connecting from your own kingdoms online, the mystery unfolds just as magically.

The game usually lasts between 1.5 and 3 hours. For 10 players, expect around two hours of gameplay, depending on how animated your group is. Some parties move quickly through clues, while others stretch it out with performances, singalongs, or magic-themed party games. The pacing is flexible and can be customized for younger or older players.

The kit includes everything you need to bring the enchanted mystery to life. You’ll get a host guide with simple instructions, individual character sheets with magical powers, backstories, and secrets, themed clues and visual prompts to reveal across different rounds, printable or digital invitations, and final voting cards. It also includes costume suggestions, décor inspiration, and optional extras like scroll-style messages, magical tokens, or mini drawing activities to match the “create-your-world” theme.

Yes, the game is designed for replayability. The culprit can be randomly assigned each time, and players can switch roles or explore new endings. Whether you host it again with the same guests or introduce it to a new group, the story continues to feel fresh, magical, and interactive. It’s a great option for annual parties or family game nights.

This mystery is perfect for birthdays, family game nights, Disney-themed parties, fantasy sleepovers, fan conventions, youth group events, or school celebrations. Whether you’re planning a fairytale gathering or a magical costume event, this story-driven game adds structure and sparkle to your celebration.

The game is best suited for ages 10 and up. It’s written with family-friendly storytelling in mind, without graphic content or scary elements. The roles are full of personality, humor, and mystery, making them enjoyable for kids, teens, and adults alike. Younger players may need help reading or tracking clues, but the game is designed to be inclusive, imaginative, and accessible.

Costumes are optional but highly encouraged. Guests can dress as fantasy royalty, magical creatures, reimagined storybook heroes, enchanted toys, or animated sidekicks—whatever fits the world your group imagines. Even simple accessories like capes, crowns, fairy wings, or bright color themes can help everyone get into character and make the experience more magical.

Yes, the game can be expanded to include up to 20 players using optional character packs. These additional roles include whimsical side characters, overlooked heroes, rival creators, or forgotten doodles—each with unique ties to the central story and the magic pencil. Everyone gets a role, a voice, and a part to play in solving the magical mystery.

Yes, the host can absolutely play along. The solution is hidden unless the host decides to view it in advance, so you can assign roles and still enjoy the surprise. Alternatively, you can take on the role of a narrator, animator, or “guardian of the sketchbook” to help guide the story while staying in character. The game is designed so that no outside game master is needed.
