Edward Munst Cold Case File – Unsolved Murder Mystery Game – Boxed Edition
In the late 1990s, Edward Munst was the co-founder of SafeTee.com, and a poster child of the dotcom boom. Munst started a number of failed companies before that with his friends Reggie Kent and Leslie Grayson.
Edward Munst was attacked and killed on October 2nd, 2002, only a few dozen yards from his home. A passer-by found him and called the paramedics, but Munst died while in transit to St. Steven’s Hospital.
No one was ever charged with his murder.

Keep another case ready for the moment the final clue falls into place. Choose two or three investigations and add them to your basket in one step.
Cold cases make a brilliant gift for the mystery-lover in your life — a night in for two, or a puzzle to unwrap solo. Digital editions can even be sent straight to their inbox with a personal message, scheduled to land on the big day and opening to a cinematic reveal.
The moment you buy, you're given secure access to your case portal — sign in and reopen the dossier to examine, download or print every file. Choose a physical edition and a beautifully made boxed kit is also posted to your door.
How many people can play?
Play solo, or team up with a partner. Cold cases are a one or two-player investigation — ideal for date night or a quiet night in.
How long does it take?
Most cases take around 1–2 hours, and there's no timer. Work through the evidence at your own pace and pick it back up whenever you like.
Do I need to print anything?
Not at all — you can examine everything in your case portal on any device. Print the files if you'd like to spread the evidence out, or work from the posted kit with a physical edition.
What if I get stuck?
Every case includes a built-in hint system and a full solution, so you're never truly stuck.
Can I play it more than once?
Each case has one solution, so the reveal lands hardest the first time. Plenty of detectives go back through the evidence afterwards to catch what they walked straight past — and when you're ready for a fresh investigation, there's a whole library of cases waiting.
What device should I use?
For digital editions, a computer or tablet is best for examining the documents and photographs in detail. Physical editions come ready to spread out on the table.
What age is it suitable for?
Most cases suit teens and adults. A few carry mature true-crime themes — the product description flags anything stronger.

Overall the experience was great fun. We solved it in the end. Although, there were quite a few typos , missing 2 crime scene photos that were listed in online portion of the game and 3 incorrect dates, one quoting Jude’s date of birth as 10 years after his mother’s death and the tabloid article about Edward’s funeral dated 10years before his death. And finally, the pathology report mentioned Edward’s death on the 4 th and not the 2nd as outline in the scenario description .
Too cold to walk around our courtyard at work, so we killed a little downtime solving a murder. The most interesting day at work in a long time! GREAT BONDING WITH MY TEAMMATES!
Finding gifts for my husband is hard, but this midweek murder mystery was a total hit. We used it for our anniversary and loved every minute. If you’re an Agatha Christie fan, this is a must.
“It was a powerful experience that demonstrated how asking Depth of Knowledge questions can unlock deeper understanding of rigorous content. The murder mystery activity made this connection even more tangible for my teachers.” - Principal Lake
It was a family “Cold Case Supper Club”. Three generations came together with different perspectives, ideas and suspects. Great conversations! I printed Act 1 and emailed it about 2 weeks before. Lots of reading! We completed the remaining acts together. So fun!
My husband and I tried it out to test our critical thinking skills. It wasn’t as hard as another I did, but it sparked a lot of good conversation and was appropriately challenging. Going to try this with my team at work.
We had an overall great experience with this game. We originally purchased it as a fun date night activity for our first anniversary, but we did not end up using it then. Instead, we brought it along on a cabin trip with a group of about 10 friends, and it turned out to be a huge hit.
Everyone worked together to solve the case, with each person taking on a different suspect as their area of expertise. The group really got into it, and it made for a fun, interactive, and memorable experience.
The only major issue we encountered was with some apparent graphical and labeling errors. A few character descriptions did not match the images provided. For example, one character was labeled as male even though the picture appeared to show a female. Some dates on the supplemental evidence were inconsistent or incorrect, and a few of the in-game scenarios seemed mislabeled or switched. We selected a scenario based on the envelope, but when we opened it, the contents reflected a different one. The conclusion inside the envelope did match the one we had chosen, so it was a little confusing.
Even with those issues, we still had a blast. We enjoyed it so much that our group plans to make this a monthly activity.
It was fun. A little overwhelming at first. But once we figured out how to ask the right questions online it became more enjoyable. Would defiantly buy another one.
It was lots of fun to do together with a group of friends
I will say it’s a lot of reading (if your friends are as distractible as mine) and deducing out loud, I wish it were more interactive.
All in all, a good time and inexpensive fun night in
We used the digital version and solved the case together in a couple of hours.
Pros: There are a lot of materials to go through and we enjoyed reading and discussing the police notes and learning all the characters... and then working our way to the solution.
Cons: There were several errors in the materials that had us wondering if they were clues or just sloppy editing... it was editing. The actual clue was obvious and we made our way to the solution quite quickly once we'd finished going through all the documents.
Overall, it really was a fun date night and I would totally do it again. We both enjoyed using our brains and working together and the storyline was intricate and well-thought out. It was way more fun than watching yet another police procedural on TV. So good!!
What a fun evening at home. We really enjoyed decoding the clues. Well done. Upon completion, we immediately bought the experience again and sent it as a gift to family. Super fun!
So much fun! I got this for a date night with my hubby and we enjoyed the time together! It took us more than one night and we were ok with that! I would recommend to anyone looking for quality fun times that don't require you to leave the house!
It was fun. It is easy to open the wrong envelope however, as they have two numbers on the front. It is easy to see and read, unless partially covered in papers or if not paying close attention.
Great family activity. Even got the teens involved. I knew my son was having a good time when I noticed his cellphone never came and no one asked for music
We enjoyed this over the Christmas holidays. It took a little while to sort through all of the documents and establish the characters involved and looked for consistencies and inconsistencies to establish links. We thoroughly enjoyed it and spent one & a half to two hours on it.
It was a great date night. We were able to work together to solve the crime, and it was fun to figure it out. I would say maybe make it a little more challenging... But that's just due to the fact that I love crime shows.
:)
My wife and I started reading through it all the first night, but we were kind of tired and it was a lot. So we put it off a few days and tackled it again. Then we spotted the inconsistencies. They were just subtle enough that you had to look carefully without being too careful. We've done other "cold cases" and have enjoyed this one the most.
The experience was excellent. The only thing that I thought could maybe be different was the way that you interacted with the online investigation. Maybe if it were possible to ask the suspects some more questions. Maybe ai could present some opportunity to have more of a scripted dialogue with the people that you suspect. Apart from that minor issue I thought that the mystery was very well done.
Amazing game!! The whole family loved it. It got everyone guessing and sharing their theories on who done it. Not only was story line superb, the game itself is very well presented with quality materials. I was very impressed. Can’t wait to buy another one of their mystery games. I highly recommend 👍
My husband and I did it together. It was a little bit of intimidating at first, but we really got into it. It was funto discuss our different interpretation of the data. We were excited when we got it right. We do it again.
The mystery itself was excellent. Very good quality and really enjoyable. BUT, the instructions need to be much clearer. When I went into the site to ask a question, (I wanted more information from the autopsy report), the prompt asked for my email address. I waited DAYS and contacted customer service and finally learned that I just needed to move on to the next section, and the answer would be provided in the physical game. That was entirely unclear. Why did the prompt ask for my email if an email answer was not being sent. Otherwise, great game!
This was a Christmaspresent for my daughter, and she was very excited opening it on Christmas Day. Her sister showed interest and I am sure there be more unsolved crimes ordered in the future.
